Project
I created "New Beginning" Care Packages for my Gold Award project for Girl Scouts. New Beginning Care Packages are packages with basic items needed for 18-year olds who are moving out of foster care because the state no longer supports them. These boxes help them get settled into a college dorm or small apartment. They move into these new places with little to no help from the state and/or family members. To create the packages I first had to think of a way to raise money to buy the items. My first plan didn't work out so I decided to host a Girl Scout Cookie Booth to raise the money. I sold over 200 boxes and raised the money I needed to buy the items. I also went to my town library and the two elementary schools in town and set up donation boxes for some of the items needed. Through the help of my community I was able to send out these boxes to the teenagers who need them. The packages are distributed to the young adults who need it through the non-profit organization, Children's Aid and Family Services.
